WHITE HOUSE

BEAUMARIS, VICTORIA

This project is a considered rejuvenation of a John Baird-designed residence—an architect renowned for his prolific contributions from the 1950s through to the 1990s. The intervention respects the original structure while introducing a refined contemporary expression.

A new façade treatment defines the home’s renewed identity, featuring a delicate white veil screen, an integrated pergola, and an operable façade that enhances the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. These elements work together to mediate light, privacy, and ventilation, enriching the spatial experience.

Internally, a 4.5m long sculptural black island bench anchors the heart of the home, becoming a dynamic focal point around which daily rituals unfold. The result is a residence that balances Beaumaris heritage with modernity, elevating its liveability while maintaining the integrity of Baird’s architectural lineage.
